How to Export Gemini Conversations to PDF, Docs & More
Gemini lives inside Google Workspace, so you'd expect saving a conversation to be effortless. It's half-true: there's a built-in export, but it only handles one response at a time. Here's the full picture, with the trade-offs of each method.
Looking for the direct tool? See the Gemini exporter for precise-scope exports in PDF, Word, Markdown, and more.
1. Gemini's "Share & export" (one response at a time)
Under any Gemini response, open Share & export. You can Export to Docs (it creates a new Google Doc in your Drive), Draft in Gmail, or send a table to Sheets.
For a single answer inside Google Workspace, this is genuinely frictionless. The limitation is real, though: it works per-response only, and it drops your original prompt. To save a full multi-turn conversation this way, you'd export each answer and stitch the pieces together.
2. Share link
The share icon generates a public g.co/gemini/share link — view-only, readable in the
browser without a Gemini account.
Useful for showing someone a conversation. But it isn't a file you control, it isn't available on Workspace (work or school) accounts, and Google doesn't promise the link will persist.
3. Google Takeout (the whole account)
Takeout is the official way to archive your Gemini history. It's also notoriously confusing — pick the wrong options and you get "Gemini Gems" or Workspace metadata instead of readable threads.
Good for a full account archive. Not the tool for saving one conversation, today, as a clean document.
4. Browser print
Use your browser menu → Print → Save as PDF works, but it's a documented sore point: very long Gemini chats don't reliably print from beginning to end, which is exactly when you most want a complete record.
5. A one-click exporter
A browser extension exports the entire conversation — prompts and responses together — to PDF, Word, Markdown or HTML in a click, preserving tables, code, and equations as they appear.
Which method should you use?
Use the native export to drop a single answer into Google Docs, an exporter to save the whole conversation as a clean file, and Takeout when you want a full account archive. For day-to-day work, the gap Gemini leaves — exporting an entire thread — is the one an exporter fills.
